Wezer has expanded the range of batteries for motorcycles, adding new models to the range for different types of motorcycles. The new products allow us to offer the market a wider range of solutions in terms of capacity, start-up characteristics and form factors.
Rechargeable batteries in motorcycles are operated under conditions of increased vibration and shock loads, limited mounting volume, variable temperature conditions and pronounced seasonality. These factors create increased requirements for the accuracy of geometric parameters, the stability of electrical characteristics, the reliability of mechanical fixation and the correct choice of the type of contact terminals.
Wezer products are focused on sustainable operation as part of motorcycle power systems with a variable consumption profile, frequent start-up modes and long periods of storage without operation.
For motorcycle batteries, the key parameters are the overall dimensions of the case, type design, mounting systems, terminal design and types, manufacturing technology, vibration resistance, tightness of the housing, permissible mounting position and compatibility with the on-board network of a particular vehicle.
Compared with automotive batteries, motorcycle batteries have a significantly higher value for accurate compliance with the installation space, product weight, resistance to mechanical stress and stability of operation in seasonal operation and long-term storage without regular recharging. Maintenance-free design and battery adaptation to the operating conditions of motor vehicles are also important.
Motorcycle battery mounting systems vary depending on the design of the equipment and require precise alignment to the dimensions and seat of the battery.
Mounting systems C (C6, C8, C9)
This is the most common group of seating designs, in which the battery is fixed in the lower tray due to the geometry of the base of the housing and the upper clamping bar. The main engineering task is to ensure vertical and longitudinal rigidity, eliminating micro—displacements during prolonged vibration.
- The C6 is used in compact motorcycles and scooters with minimal battery capacity. Typical examples: Yamaha YBR, Honda CBF small volumes, Honda PCX, Suzuki Address.
- The C8 is typical for the mass segment of mid-range road motorcycles, where a compromise between capacity and mounting compactness is required: Honda CB/CBR 125-500, Yamaha MT-03/MT-07, Suzuki GSR.
- The C9 is used in heavier and more energy-loaded platforms, including tourist and universal models with an increased battery capacity: Honda NC750, Yamaha Tracer, Kawasaki Versys.
Z mounting systems (Z1, Z2, Z7)
The Z series implements a guide-frame locking scheme, in which the battery is held by side stops and mounting rails on the housing.
- The Z1 is used in light urban vehicles and scooters, where compactness and ease of installation are prioritized: Honda Dio, Yamaha Jog, Suzuki Lets.
- The Z2 is aimed at road and cross-country motorcycles of medium and high classes with a higher dynamic load on the battery: Honda CRF250, Yamaha WR250, Kawasaki KLX.
- The Z7 is a reinforced version for heavy enduro and touring motorcycles, designed for long-term operation in conditions of intense vibration and off-road conditions: KTM Adventure, BMW GS-series, Honda Africa Twin.
Terminal types are of particular technical importance, since they determine the electrical and installation compatibility with the standard wiring of a particular motorcycle. The most common terminals are F1 and F2 (flat knife contacts), as well as threaded terminals for M5/M6.
In a number of designs, lateral and combined versions are used, where the connection is made through the upper or lateral plane of the contact node. The choice of configuration is determined by the geometry of the battery compartment and the requirements of the OEM manufacturer (Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, KTM, etc.): from compact knife solutions in urban technology to reinforced threaded terminals in touring and off-road platforms.
A motorcycle battery is characterized primarily by constant vibrations, shaking, tilting, seasonal downtime, and frequent start-ups. In such an operation, the battery must not only be powerful, but also resistant to mechanical and electrical loads. The I-GEL manufacturing technology helps to maintain stable operation in these conditions, since the gel structure of the electrolyte better tolerates vibrations and reduces the risk of accelerated wear of internal elements.
The I-GEL technology in motorcycle batteries is a modified gel electrolyte system in which the liquid phase is immobilized in a gel-like matrix. This solution stabilizes the behavior of the active mass and increases the operational stability of the battery during vibrations and cyclic modes of operation.
This is especially important for motorcycle applications, as the battery simultaneously experiences mechanical stress, long-term downtime, and subsequent high inrush currents. The gel structure reduces the mobility of the electrolyte, minimizes the risk of delamination and reduces the likelihood of accelerated degradation of the plates under vibration loads.
One of the key operational advantages of I-GEL is its improved resistance to deep wear. This is critical for seasonal equipment: during off-season storage periods, the battery retains its remaining capacity better and restores operating parameters more efficiently after discharge.
Additionally, the I-GEL ensures stable operation when tilting and changing the spatial position of the body, which is important for motorcycles with non-standard battery installation in the frame. The hermetic design eliminates electrolyte leaks and increases the overall level of operational safety.
Thus, I-GEL technology increases the battery’s resistance to vibration and cyclic loads, improves storage behavior and reduces the risk of failures, which directly affects the reliability of motorcycle equipment.
